We are also working on a new Email to SMS service to launch with the Fax service.

This will enable you to send SMS alerts to any mobile phone straight into your email client. This could be used to notify your clients on order status or keep your service engineers notified of server errors.
If you can say it in 160 characters and email it then you can use this service.

This will enable you to receive faxes straight into your email client as a PDF. You will also have the facility to send faxes from your email client to any physical FAX machine.

A record

An A record (or ‘address record’) specifies which IP is assigned to a particular domain. This entry doesn’t necessarily have to be made a domain can for example be used only for mail services – so an A record for this domain is not necessary. Alternatively, more than one record can be entered for each domain. In this case, a new record is returned for each query. This is particularly important for large scalable systems.

CNAME

CNAME stands for ‘canonical name’ and is a redirection to the zone file of the entered target domain. All entries (NS, MX, A) therefore apply to this target domain. CNAMES are primarily used to make it easier to maintain domains with the same basic data, or to assign other domains entered in the same zone the same data as the zone itself.

MX records or ‘mail exchange’ records

MX records specify which mail servers are responsible for a particular domain. This entry is not mandatory, and as with the A record several entries may be made. One special feature is $priority numbers, which provide information to the querying mail server about which mail server should be used first. The next entry is tried only when the mail server with the highest priority is not available. The priority of $priority numbers rises in opposition to the value of the number, meaning that lower numbers have a higher priority.

Another special feature is that only domains may be entered for mail servers. An entry referencing an IP results in an error.

Nameservers

A nameserver is a server which controls the DNS for a domain. It allows you to decide which hosting company controls your webspace and email.

All domain registrars should provide you with the ability to change at least two nameserver entries on your domain name, and hosting companies should offer you at least two nameservers to point to.
